It's pretty simple, folks. Do we want to retain the language filter? Or does it represent too rigid a fetter? I can see points both for and against it. On the one hand, it is frustrating to have one's words replaced by annoying euphemisms and downright confusing when the offending term is used in one of its innocent senses (e.g., the U.S. V.P.'s first name--wait, bad example) or is part of another word (I'm reminded of Enya's evocation of The Chronicles of Ridthingy. On the other hand, the filter makes us think more carefully about what we want to say and even come up with creative--and entertaining--substitutes for the hackneyed vulgarities we first thought to employ. I, for one, would be sad to see the last of "dem." And yet I sometimes long for salty language. It's a quandary. What say you all? BE WARNED: If the decision is to remove the filter, I will use my godlike powers (see reply #10 here) to vary language if I find the same old expletives being used unto death. NOTE: Poll ends June 2 (one week should be more than enough time for people to weigh in). Only registered members may vote. Result to be determined by a simple majority.

The way I see it, this is primarily a forum for the members of the MCV and its many affiliated groups. Now swear filters are understandable on more open forums, with more throughflow and flaming (read: Desensitized), but here I dont think its necessary.
Those who would tend to swear profusely to insult others shouldnt be a part of out groups, and so I see no reason why we'd have a problem with swearing.
On the other hand, the occasional curse word (used wisely) is expressive, and the filter as it is now does seem a little too vigilant.

Yup, fcuking spot on DP. and BTW can somebody taking this warning bar off my name, I'm getting a little sick of it. Surely there is a time lapse thing on bad behaviour, Celt?

I kinda like the warning bar. It makes you look so cool yet dangerous. I was thinking of asking for one, also......

Go to your 'modify profile' and you can set it to whatever you think looks meanest there And hey, I always thought your avatar made you look dangerous Edit: Wait a sec, are you trying to make the warning bar into this summers 'must have' fashion item? *Hops on bandwagon*

Enya, do it yourself, lazy! Just click on thinktank's purple name, then hit 'modify profile'. Scroll down to near the bottom under the 'admin functions' header, and you should be able to enter a value for his warning bar. *Note, just dont set it to 100, I think that has consequences*
